Who am I?
Hi, I am Xan. I graduated in November 2009 with a BA(Hons) in Architecture [RIBA Part I] from the Leicester School of Architecture. As you can probably tell I was also once a web developer and designer hobbyist - but that was another life. I have packed up most of my webby skills and traded them for the Architectural discipline, quite a leap from fluently understanding the syntax and semantics of numerous coding languages to actually designing buildings isn't it?
My passion for architecture started young, perhaps not in the conventional way, but it was there. Since I could put a pen in each hand (ambidextrous at childhood) I started creating, designing and dreaming. Everything that manifested itself into my head had to be put onto paper or made into a model, developed and redesigned - my friends were often a pair of scissors, split pins and some sticky tape! I also liked Lego but every other person in my profession will say that too! This drive to create, and invent led me down several subject paths at school that led me to take architecture; after all an architect invents and creates solutions to site specific problems.
I also enjoy learning. I always have. School was not so great, friends being the only thing that got me through, but when I finally got to University all the fun started! Architecture, like many professions, is not a subject that allows you to simply know everything and your knowledge to be complete. In reality the architect is always learning, this is a key aspect of invention. Also knowing everything isn't always possible, life is not about how much you know, but knowing where to find the information you seek.
I hope you enjoy exploring my portfolio.
